The Impact E-model is designed to calculate the costs of tobacco on local economies.
Within the West Midlands model, all data sources relate to 2001 wherever possible. All economic activity rates are fixed so that the costs to the local economy of tobacco consumption are a function of smoking rather than of changes in the labour market. This is the same as the Yorkshire and Humberside model except that 2003 Hospital Episode Statistics have been applied.
This section will guide you through each dataset needed to determine the costs of smoking for a given area. The datasets include:
To begin, you must first select your chosen geography from the list below. Once an area has been selected, you will then be presented with a complete, preloaded dataset for your area. You can then either calculate the costs for your local economy based on current data, or alter the smoking prevalence rates for different sub-populations to see how such changes would benefit or harm the local economy.
Step 1: Please select a geography from the regional, Primary Care Trust (PCT), or Local Authority District (LAD) options below. Please note: these links will bring up the Smoking Costs calculator in a new window.
